Course Overview

This course covers both the reason for the need for storage and an overview of storage technologies, including batteries, flywheels, super-condensers, flow batteries, compressed air energy storage, hydrogen, pumped hydro, large scale hydraulic systems, thermal energy storage including molten salt, sand, rock and other solids). Followed by (or possibly offered as a separate course) a session focusing on battery storage many forms of battery storage are currently in development, and although the fact that the transport industry has made an initial investment in Lithium Ion batteries, there are many different technologies being considered, and with time, others will appear on the market.
