Upon completion of the course students will have the key skills and knowledge required to understand how to deal with data that has a location element. The accuracy of location on the surface of the Earth is essential for anything that is proposed to be built in the real world. This course will describe geographic information data types, projections, and storage for reuse in enterprise databases. The course will cover strategies for spatial data management and grouping of data into functional types that are related to aspects such as: environmental, engineering design, and planning data sets such as elevations and bathymetry. Raster data (aerial photography and satellite imagery) will also be discussed. GIS and ArcGIS are covered.
